ICP offers English for Academic Purposes (EAP) programmes especially designed for those students needing to improve their English language skills before beginning their academic programme.

English language programmes can be undertaken at ICP prior to starting an International Foundation, International Pathway or 1st Year Degree. English courses take place in the same classrooms as our academic courses, so students studying English are a part of the ICP student body and have access to ICP and University facilities. Successful completion of the ICP English course guarantees a place on the onward academic course at ICP.

The ICP English courses aim to develop a broad, academically useful vocabulary and improve pronunciation, grammatical skills and understanding. You will also build skills that will improve lecturenote-taking and seminar participation and develop essay, report, and academic assignment writing skills.

Upon completion, students will have improved their reading comprehension and have developed those research skills necessary to be able to read academic texts, journals and papers efficiently and effectively. Students will also be able to develop public speaking and presentation confidence and build those independent study skills required for success in a university environment.

EAP courses are conducted each semester (October, February, June – the normal ICP intakes). Students are required to attend classes for 20 – 25 hours each week for the 10 teaching weeks of a course. Students are placed in classes according to their English entry level.

To ensure that students are able to join the correct level and to assist when other English language test appointments are not available, ICP offers its own English placement test that can be conducted in the student’s home country.
